THE OPEN AIR MARKET IS A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION RUN BY ITS MEMBERS THROUGH THE POWELL RIVER AND DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION

The market is a traditional, country-style market selling fresh, locally grown farm and garden produce. Membership is open to resident farmers, home gardeners and artisans who grow or hand-craft their own items and sell direct to the customer.

All growers agree to grow without pesticides or herbicides.

The market supports sustainable farming methods and the humane treatment of livestock.

It also supports the preservation of traditional rural arts and skills such as canning, seed-saving, soap-making, home-dairying and animal husbandry.

A low annual fee and a 10% payment on daily sales give small farmers and home-based gardeners, bakers and craftspeople a place to sell small amounts and to try out new ideas.

Community groups and non-profits are also welcome to request a table for information or fundraising.

The market was created and built by its members and has grown to be a popular event with a focus on the local community and on promoting awareness of the importance of local agriculture.

All members contribute to the running of the market through their participation in seasonal work parties and special events.

The market is a member of the BC Association of Farmers Markets.
